Motorola To Join Samsung And Google With 7-Year Updates

Motorola is about to introduce a new smartphone, called the Motorola Signature, which will also bring a very important change in the software support strategy of the company. According to details provided before the official announcement, this smartphone will be the first from Motorola to offer seven years of Android operating system and security updates; therefore, it will bring the brand up to speed with similar long-term support policies by Samsung and Google.

It was renowned leaker Evan Blass that spilled the beans, and he provided all the device’s specifications too. This is a significant move for Motorola, typically offering shorter update cycles-for instance, its latest batch of phones, like the ultra-thin Edge 70, is only promised four years of updates. It’s anybody’s guess whether Motorola intends to extend this new seven-year policy to other mid-range or premium devices in its lineup.

Speaking of hardware, the Motorola Signature is positioned as a flagship device; it is going to be shipped with Android 16 and powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor. The phone is expected to have options with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage. The battery capacity for this device is 5,200 mAh, which supports 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

Another highlight is the camera system. The rear setup features three 50-megapixel sensors: a primary camera, an ultra-wide lens, and a periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The device supports 8K video recording on the rear camera, while the 50-megapixel front camera is capable of recording in 4K.

It focuses on durability, too: MIL-STD-810 military-grade certification and IP68/IP69 ratings against water and dust. On the front, it carries a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, a 165 Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 6,200 nits.

Pricing and availability were not disclosed, but the Motorola Signature is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious smartphones from the company to date.
