AMD Launches Ryzen AI And Next-Gen Gaming CPUs At CES 2026

AMD announced the latest generation of Ryzen processors at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, reinforcing its focus on on-device artificial intelligence and high-performance gaming. The new lineup consists of the Ryzen AI 400 series, Ryzen AI Max+ platform, and Ryzen 7 9850X3D, expanding AMD’s presence across AI-capable notebooks, compact desktops, and enthusiast gaming PCs.

For AMD, the new processors are part of a wider strategy to integrate AI acceleration at a hardware level. In focusing on local AI processing, AMD is working to decrease reliance on the cloud for such capabilities while promising better performance, power efficiency, and data privacy. This covers everyone from professionals and content creators to gamers looking for ultimate performance.

Ryzen AI 400: The Basis for Copilot+ PCs

Ryzen AI 400 series sits as AMD’s primary platform for Copilot+ PCs, which is targeted toward notebooks and, for the first time, desktops certified in this category. The processors integrate Zen 5 CPU cores, RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics, and the XDNA 2 neural processing unit for dedicated acceleration of generative AI tasks, content creation, and advanced multitasking.

The new chips thus come with clock speed increases of up to 200 MHz and an NPU bump from 50 to 60 TOPS compared to the previous Ryzen AI 300 lineup, which will allow more demanding AI workloads to run locally. AMD talked about productivity gains, especially in mobile scenarios, along with everyday usage improvements.

Ryzen AI 400-powered devices are expected to hit the market during the first quarter of 2026 from the company’s partners, including Dell, Asus, and Lenovo. AMD also teased one rather unusual product-a smart keyboard powered by the chip-but it did not disclose further details about it.

Ryzen AI Max+: AI and creation-focused systems

AMD introduces Ryzen AI Max+, a new category for developers and advanced creators. Large-capacity unified memory and high-performance RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics are highlights of the new platform, enabling complex AI models, 3D rendering, and even AAA gaming without a dedicated GPU.

In addition, the newest 392 and 388 utilize the same big GPU configuration as the top-end 395, providing console-like performance akin to a PlayStation 5 on portable systems, but at a lower price. AMD positions Ryzen AI Max+ as a middle ground between premium laptops and compact workstations, capable of handling demanding workloads directly on the device.

Ryzen 7 9850X3D: Faster than ever for gamers

The Ryzen 7 9850X3D targets enthusiast gamers with the Zen 5 architecture and AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology. It is designed for high frame rates and consistent performance in competitive titles, continuing to use the AM5 socket to simplify upgrade paths for existing customers. AMD touts higher performance in cache- and latency-sensitive games while keeping power consumption in check in the high-performance segment.
