WhatsApp Tests New Profile Design With Cover Photos On Android

WhatsApp has introduced a redesigned profile page for Android users, now featuring a cover photo option. This update, currently available only to beta testers, allows users to personalize their profile by adding a cover image displayed prominently at the top of the screen, in addition to their regular profile photo.

The feature was previously exclusive to WhatsApp Business accounts, but it is now being extended to regular users, signaling a move toward greater personalization and a more social network–like experience. When a contact opens a user’s profile, they will see both the profile picture and the newly added cover photo, giving profiles a more visually engaging appearance.

According to WBI, WhatsApp includes three visibility settings for the cover photo: “Everyone,” “My Contacts,” and “Nobody.” These options mirror the existing privacy settings for profile pictures, allowing users to control who can view their cover image.

Although this feature is still under testing, it is viewed as part of a broader effort by WhatsApp to enhance user profiles and expand beyond traditional messaging. The platform has been gradually introducing updates that make it resemble a social media network. For example, the upcoming introduction of usernames is expected to make user identification easier and reduce the reliance on phone numbers for connecting with others.

In addition to the new profile layout, WhatsApp is working on several other improvements aimed at enhancing performance and user experience. These include developing a memory-saving feature to optimize storage usage on smartphones and experimenting with new reactions for Status updates. Such initiatives reflect WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to refine its interface and add more interactive and expressive tools for users.
